If you enjoy shopping on Black Friday, I do NOT advise getting sick for Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, I woke up the day before Thanksgiving not feeling all that well, and by Thanksgiving I was too sick to go to the dinner with family that I had been looking forward to.
Of course, since I had been looking forward to Black Friday for months and months, I loaded up on DayQuil, and went out anyway. I originally had planned on going to a bunch of different places with one of my closest friends, but was lucky enough to make it to 5 stores. I was able to get what I wanted the most though, so I really can’t complain.
What was high on my list this year? Mostly DVDs. Yes, really. I didn’t need much, and wasn’t looking for much, but there were a lot of great DVDs on sale for a lot lower price than you can get them otherwise, so I had fun with that. I got a few other things as well, but was happy to be home by 10am so that I could go back to sleep!
I am one of the crazy ones that loves going shopping early on Black Friday, so hopefully next year I’ll be in better health and will be able to enjoy it more!

Have you heard about the Flat Belly Diet?
The editors of Prevention magazine have come up with a way that you can lose up to 15 pounds in 32 days. It has nothing to do with exercise, but has to do with eating MUFAs – “good” fats that are found in many different types of foods.
How does this work? By eating these MUFAs with your meals, you’ll lose weight without even trying. This book tells you what foods to eat, and how to eat them.
What types of foods are MUFAs? See the chart below. I think you’ll be surprised at what great tasting foods are included. You won’t be forced to starve yourself, or eat nothing but soup for the 32 days. Instead, you’ll get to eat real food that tastes great, and will be happily surprised when the weight comes off, and you get the belly you’ve been waiting for.
At this point you’re probably asking yourself…that sounds like a great idea, and I’d love to try it, but why on earth are you mentioning this on a blog about saving money and finding good deals? There are two really good reasons that this fits right in with saving money.
The first is that Prevention magazine is looking for people to try the Flat Belly Diet for FREE. Yes, you read that correctly. They want to give you a copy of the book, a free 1-year membership to the Flat Belly Diet website, and more. What would they like in return? They want you to share your experiences with others. Blog about it, tell your friends, etc. Let’s face it. When it works and you lose weight easily and while eating great tasting foods, you’ll want to go and tell all your friends as well as strangers, so that doesn’t seem like too much to ask.
The second is that when trying to lose weight, you can spend a LOT of money. People go out and buy fancy exercise equipment (that sometimes ends up sitting in the corner, unused); they buy expensive “health” foods, etc, and still have problems losing weight. Whether you get to try this for free or even go out and get the book yourself, you will be saving money over all of the other options you have. You’ll see that without spending all your money you can still lose weight. Just by eating the foods mentioned above, you’ll be able to become healthier and lose that belly that you’ve been trying to get rid of.
If you want to find out more about the Flat Belly Diet, as well as possibly fill out an application to get the book for free, here is the link to the Flat Belly Diet.

Last night, we decided to go to a town near us that has not one, but two stores that are closing. Both chains have totally different circumstances, but what is happening at each store is the same. The first is of course, Linens N’ Things, which is completely going out of businesses – so all stores are liquidating as well as their website. The second store is Circuit City, and while they aren’t going out of business, they are closing a lot of their stores. Either way, both locations we went to had huge “Everything Must Go” signs, and a lot of sale signs all over.
Before I tell you about what we found, I will say that I didn’t plan on buying anything. What happens when a store liquidates is that another company takes it over, and takes care of the actual liquidation. So another company comes in, (usually) inflates all of the prices, and then slowly puts things on sale. So when the first “Everything Must Go” signs go up, things are 10% off, maybe 20% off…and then slowly as time goes on, it gets more and more until either there is nothing left to sell, or the store is going to close in a day or two, and then things are finally 80% or 90% off.
Well, Linens N’ Things had announced over a month ago that they were closing, so we did have some hopes that things would have some lower prices, figuring it would be closing soon. Circuit City on the other hand didn’t announce that long ago, so we expected higher prices.
What we found was that both stores pretty much had 20% off of everything. What did that mean to actual prices of items? Well, at Linens N’ Things, with a coupon you can get 20% off of everything any day of the week. Plus, some of these prices were higher than when Linens N’ Things was in charge, so it wasn’t that great of a deal. As for Circuit City? We weren’t excited there either. Just to give you an example, we had looked at some DVDs, and they were $24.00 each. We’re talking about movies that had been on DVD for a few months already. So even with the 20% off, it was still more than we would pay for a DVD almost anywhere else.
Don’t get me wrong. You can definitely find good deals when stores are going out of business, you just have to wait until the price is actually lower than you can find somewhere else. Don’t be fooled into thinking you’re getting a great price just because everything is marked down and “Everything Must Go”. As time goes on, the prices of the items left will drop, and they will be good deals. In another few weeks, we might take another trip over to see how things are going, and to see if there are any good deals yet.

If you’re looking for a sale, you don’t have to look far these days. It looks like almost every store is having huge sales, many with x% off the entire store. This is going on both online, and in your local retail location. It’s incredible how great the deals are…and hopefully they will only get better. Here are just a few of the deals from the newsletter today which was extra long because of all of the great deals:

November is really turning into the month of great deals! At this rate, I’m really excited to see what happens by the end of the month, or right around Christmas! Here are just a few of the deals that were in the newsletter earlier today. There were also some great freebies that only go out to subscribers (which is free), so if you want to get the deals as they come out, as well as get links to all the free stuff, be sure to sign up now.

Walt Disney World has a great package that came out at the end of last week. It’s basically Buy 4 Get 3 Free, meaning that if you pay for a package of 4 nights at a Disney World hotel plus tickets, you’ll get a total of 7 nights hotel plus another 3 free days of theme park tickets.
This can be booked now, and you can travel now through June 27th. The thing is if you travel now through March 29th, you’ll also get a $200 Disney Gift Card.
If you’re wondering if this is a better deal than the August/September Free Dining plan like I was, it depends. The price of your package will vary now through June, so it depends on when you go. When free dining occurs (which there is no guarantee it will happen this year, although it has gone on for at least 4 years now), you have to pay full price for the rooms. Now through June, you’ll probably pay a lot less for the rooms, so it depends on when you’re going if it’s a better deal or not.
Also, if you have a birthday coming up in the first half of next year, remember that you will be able to get a free park ticket for your birthday – or if you are part of a package that includes tickets (like this package) they will give you a choice of a “birthday fun card” in the amount equal to a 1-Day pass, a special birthday fastpass, or a 1-day magic your way base ticket for use in the next year.
Here are two places you can price out a Walt Disney World vacation including your 3 free nights.

This seems to be the month of “Friends & Family” Events, and storewide % off discounts. This is going on both online and in store. Here’s just a few of the deals that were in the newsletter earlier today. Don’t forget, you can get the entire newsletter including great deals and freebies when you sign up for the Dreamline Savings Newsletter for free.
It really seems like almost every store out there is having some sort of deal. If it’s like this now, I wonder how the deals will be by Black Friday!
I will definitely be keeping an eye out to see how great the deals will be by then. For now though, there are some great deals you can get at a bunch of different stores. There were a lot of deals in the newsletter earlier today, and here are just a few of them.

- $9.99 DVD movie packs that include 2 or 3 movies for the one price.
