Did you travel outside of the United States between February 1st, 1996 – November 8th, 2006? If so, you may be entitled to a refund! There has been a class action suit against Mastercard, Visa, and Diners Card where people say they have overpaid with currency conversions.

They have settled, and now you can get a refund! How does this work?

You should have received a paper in the mail. If not, you can still go to this website to fill out the information. You can then either fill out the forms you were sent, or do it online here and you can get some money back.

Here is the nice part. There are 3 refund options:

Option 1: Request an easy refund of $25.00. It’s recommended if you traveled outside of the U.S. for less than one week or had foreign transactions of less than $2,500 using your eligible cards during 1996 – 2006.

Option 2: Request a Total Estimation Refund based on your typical spending during travel and your answers to a few questions about your own travel outside of the U.S. This option should be used if you spend more than $2,500 on eligible cards during the time period. Refunds will be a maximum of 1% of the estimated foreign transactions.

Option 3: Request a refund based on information that you provide concerning your annual estimated foreign transactions during the 1996 – 2006 period. This option is recommended if you had extensive foreign travel or foreign transactions and are willing to provide year-by-year information. Refunds will be a maximum of 1% – 3% of your foreign transactions.

During that time frame I have spent almost 3 weeks abroad, but I’m not sure exactly how much I spent. I decided to do things the easy way, and take my $25.00 refund. I’m very happy with this, especially since it is found money! Until I got the letter in the mail, I had no idea I was getting any money, so I’m very happy with it.

So if you’ve been out of the country during the above time frame, you might want to take a look into it and see if you qualify for a refund! It’s always nice to get money you didn’t expect!
